Expat Diary 1
Things About Hong Kong
Warning: My experience is truly different and really privileged as I come from a family that is very supportive during my relocation. They lend me some money, and even I have an aunt that lives here, which speaks fluent Cantonese, she picked me up at the airport on the first day, and everything just went uphill during my move here.
Housing
Housing here is damn expensive sia, I booked a one month long stay apartment from trip.com that I got really cheap, around 9500 HKD, which is a lot in IDR.
Luckily, my aunt spoke really well to the landlord, saving me a one month deposit, which I can use to survive during my first month here.
Cash
Do bring lots of cash, there is a money changer around the Tsim Sha Tsui Station area that can change you a really good rate of HKD or if you want to sell your HKD, they take little to no commission, it has really good price and it’s even better compared in Indonesia.
Food
Long live pork
Food here is expensive, you can get a good meal at around 40 HKD (don’t buy sweet or fizzy drinks tho, they arent any more tasty than your cup of tea or classic drink)
ZAU TIM, ZAU PING all the way.
If you re weak, you may SIU TONG SIU PING also XD
THIS BAAT3 DAAT6 TUNG1 IS SO POWERFUL
Dont lose this sotong card, It’s your wallet. You can use this card for everything, every single little thing.
But if the auntie says cash only, then cash only it is.
But this octopus card is speedy af, no delay, just press press beep and youre done,
it even tracks expenses
sosim
I use the 3 Sosim Card, bought it online, got 50gb plans, only 33 hkd cheap as fk.
DOGS
I love dogs, fluffy dogs, dogs here are everywhere and they are not that kind of usual of dogs you would find in Indonesia, the dogs here are small, fluffy
Train Labels, Street Labels
The train labels when you hop on a MTR, it will show the direction based on the direction of the train, the left and right posters are mirrored but adjusted accordingly, thats just a small detail that increase readability a lot, on the streets, KMB/bus waiting lines are well made and painted, when crossing the street, it tells you on where you should look the car coming from.
GPS is …
GPS sucks here, it’s not accurate
Door
The automatic doors here dont just slide, they literally open.
Escalators and Walking Speed
I don’t understand why people here always walk on the right, but the escalators and path are always making pedestrians walk on the left.
Like when using escalators, people that stands should stay on the right and vice versa.
But the walking speed here is not really fast,
Im impressed because I thought it would be as fast as singapore.
Also, people here is not that tall. HHAHAHAH
I love asians
Things I wish I should do
